NYX Gaming Group have announced that the 2017 Grand National, which took place on the 8th April, was their busiest day of the year. During the event, NYX reported that they handled a total of 24 millions sports bets across all their channels. NYX is an end-to-end supplier and handles sports betting services for dozens of gambling operators using their OpenBet platform. With so many providers using their platform, during its peak times, OpenBet was handling 68,000 bets per minute, a 10% increase over their 2016 peak time numbers.
NYX See Record Numbers During Saturday’s Grand National 2017
The OpenBet platform was put through its paces, handling a record number of transactions throughout last Saturday’s event. The number of account transactions saw an increase of 22% from last year’s event, with a total of 74 million account transactions processed. Record numbers of mobile users also flocked in to use the service, with an average of 76% of all online bets made using mobile devices.
To put the numbers in perspective, at its peak, online shopping giant Amazon handled 36,000 transactions per minute during 2016. NYX’s OpenBet platform managed to handle almost double Amazon’s peak yearly traffic within a 24 hour period, without any reported technical issues.
NYX Gaming Group’s CEO, Matt Davey, praised the platform: “With a peak of 68,000 bets-per-minute and total of 24 million bets in 24 hours, we demonstrated the vast scale of the OpenBet platform and the power of our technology.”
OpenBet supplies the biggest gambling operators in the industry, with big names like Sky Betting & Gaming and Paddy Power Betfair, both relying on the OpenBet platform for their sports betting service. Paddy Power Betfair made headlines last year when Paddy Power and Betfair carried out the largest merger in the history of the gambling industry.
Huge mergers like Paddy Power Betfair have a huge market share over the sports betting industry, making OpenBet’s reliability in the face of the Grand National’s record online betting numbers, even more impressive.
Head of Sports Integration at Paddy Power Betfair, Chris McCoy, had similar praise for the OpenBet platform and NYX as a whole: “Saturday was fantastic for us, and the reliability and performance of OpenBet’s sportsbook was a key part of that success.”
An Even Bigger Grand National Awaits In 2018
With every sector of the gambling industry seeing huge growth, there’s no question that if the numbers remain as they are, next year’s Grand National and other sporting events like it are going to see even larger betting numbers. With NYX continuing to supply the OpenBet platform to more gambling operators, the records set in 2017 are set to be smashed by this time next year.
Add to all this the huge surge in mobile devices being used to gamble and OpenBet is going to be seeing just about every area of its service tested in time for next year’s big event. For this year at least, it’s shown it has what it takes to keep up with the demands of the industry for now.
